Chapter divisions are not original to the text — they were added around AD 1227, traditionally credited to Stephen Langton, Archbishop of Canterbury. Verse divisions came even later, standardized by Robert Estienne (Stephanus) in 1551 (NT) and 1555 (whole Bible).
