Twelve — God's people
Twelve tribes of Israel; twelve apostles of Jesus.
The story
Twelve represents the people of God: the 12 tribes of Israel descended from Jacob's sons, mirrored in the 12 apostles Jesus chose. Revelation fuses both images — a city with 12 gates named for the tribes and 12 foundations named for the apostles.
